//PIXEL SORTING
//
//

Pixel sorting is the process of manually sorting the pixels contained in an image using certain thresholds set by the user. This can lead to a plethora of unique distortion results, or going so far as to create a new composition out of the pixels of an old piece. It allows the user to re-contextualize, to remake. Through unintended sorting decisions, an artist is able to create a completely new piece with its own language and ideas.

When I initially set out to try my hand at pixel sorting, I never realized just the amount of variation and spontaneity that could come about from this type of art creation. Every choice led to its own different outcome - every threshold change led to its own unique image.  What mattered most to me was finding a good balance between textures and the newly created interactions between colors. There's an ethereal 3D quality in pieces such as 'STRIATIONS' and 'WAVE'; 'GOLDEN/HOUR' is able to capture the serene beauty of sunset breaking over the waters of a beach.
